‘Educators’ are those parish nurses who have attended the Faculty Preparation Event and are commissioned through the IPNRC to teach the Basic Preparation Course and Supplemental Modules for Parish Nurses. The participants of their courses are added to the IPNRC database in an attempt to track the number of parish nurses in the United States and abroad. In 2009 there are approximately 140 Educational Partners teaching parish nurses.
The Basic Parish Nurse Curriculum is written at the baccalaureate nursing level and has been offered as continuing education or credit courses at the baccalaureate or higher degree level. Qualifications for educators include a Master’s in nursing, completion of a basic prep PN course, experience with parish nurse practice, and sponsorship by an organization. The organization may be a college, university, seminary, denominational organization, nursing organization, non-profit organization, health care institution, home health agency, hospice agency or other health related institution.

- The curriculum focuses on core concepts of spiritual formation; professionalism; shalom as health and wholeness; and community; incorporating culture and diversity

- The curriculum supplies the content to develop and sustain parish nursing practice and individual spiritual growth

Educator Training & Events
New Educators and Additional Faculty:
Nurses who have completed the Basic Prep Course can become new or additional educators through the IPNRC by attending the Faculty Prep course offered each August. The course is held in a retreat setting and provides information on curriculum content and process dynamics that is necessary for teaching the Basic Prep Course for Parish Nurses. After completion, the nurse can return to his/her home region and educate registered nurses for this ministry.
- The 2010 will be held:
- Thursday, August 5 - Sunday, August 8

This too is held in a retreat style and provides a forum for educators to discuss changes to the curriculum, challenges to teaching the course, and reinforcement on the scope and standards of this specialty.
- The 2010 Educators Event will be held:
- Wednesday September 15-Thursday, September 16
