Being a Coordinator of a parish nursing program requires education, knowledge, skills, and gifts in the areas of community health nursing, not-for-profit management, and faith community life.
You must be willing to spend a great deal of time in all parts of the community, constantly speaking with new people and groups.
You must be:
- Comfortable talking about spirituality.
- Comfortable with interviewing, screening, hiring, supervising, evaluating, and (sometimes) firing employees.
- Willing to spend a significant amount of time on paperwork - documentation, reports, correspondence - with relatively little secretarial support.
- Flexible and strong, innovative while respectful of tradition, patient and persistent.
If you have these attributes, welcome to a wonderful world!
If you are a new Parish Nurse Coordinator, and would like to take a Parish Nurse Coordinator's Preparation Course, please click here for a list of Educational Offerings.
Stay tuned for the new Coordinator's Manual, appearing soon!
